Varsity Tennis

The boys’ and girls’ varsity tennis teams will compete in the Division 2A West Regional Individual and Doubles Championships at SBEC beginning Monday, May 5 at 1:00 P.M. Seniors April Littleton and Miriam Harding are the top seeded doubles team in the region and junior Whitney Horner and senior Jim Hassell are also seeded in their respective singles’ draws. SBEC, located at 7400 Getwell Road in Southaven, is the host site for this years’ tournament. Harding Head Tennis Coach Philip Cummings will serve as the tournament director. In the individual and doubles tournament, matches will be two out of three sets with no-ad scoring. The varsity boys tennis team defeated St. Benedict today by a score of 5-4. Eighth grader Andy Hayes was the hero for the Lions winning in both singles (#3) and in doubles (#2) with partner Taylor Reed. Jim Hassell, Andrew Shirley, and Dylan Ledbetter captured singles victories for the Lions. The Lady Lions fell to the Lady Eagles of St. Benedict by a score of 6-3. Rachel Sanders captured the lone singles win for the Lady Lions. However, the #1 doubles team of Littleton/Harding and the #2 doubles team of Horner/Copeland did gain points for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions stretched their winning streak to 5 matches with a 7-0 victory over Immaculate Conception today. Whitney Horner, April Littleton, Miriam Harding, Rachel Sanders, and Kim Tisdale each won in singles. The doubles pairings of Littleton/Harding and Horner/Lindsey Copeland secured the sweep with wins in doubles. The Lady Lions have now won five matches in a row.

The Lady Lions won their fourth straight team match today defeating Briarcrest in a nail-biter by a score of 5-4. The doubles team of Whitney Horner and Lindsey Copeland secure the win with an 8-3 win at #2. In singles, Whitney Horner, Miriam Harding, Rachel Sanders, and Lindsey Copeland each brought home victories. For the boys, Mason Bailey secured the lone point for the Lions with an 8-5 win at #4 singles.
