Thanksgiving cards for the military

November 2nd, 2009

The National Junior Honor Society recently participated in Make a Difference Day 2009 by sending Thanksgiving cards to our overseas military personnel. Mr. Banks, who coordinated the Memphis part of the project, was so touched by the messages from our students that he wrote a poem.

Words from the mouths of small children,
Heard on the other side of the world.
Ease the fears and comfort the lonely,
During times of complete turmoil.

Missing times once shared at home,
Of family, food and thought.
A moment to relax one day,
Is the one thing really sought.

Hard work without release,
Maintaining complete control.
Does little to commemorate,
Or feed a living soul.

Smiles come quickly,
On all faces in the yard.
When statements heard from home,
Are read from a innocent child’s card.
