WELCOME BACK

We want to thank each of you for joining the 2009-2010 Parent Club.  It is starting out to be an exciting and busy year!  We have already hosted our first big event-Hey Day.  Hopefully your children came home and told you they introduced a friend to a faculty or staff member and then enjoyed a Chick-fil-a lunch.  We want to thank the President’s office for the sandwiches, the Parents’ Club officers for the chips, and many of you for the wonderful homemade cookies!  Many of you joined us and helped serve and we want to thank you for that.  Parents’ Club is responsible each year for organizing and serving at this event.  It was a great day!

Our next event is See You at the Pole.  This is a national day where students, teachers, faculty, and parents gather around the flag pole and pray for our school, students, and country.  This will take place on Wed. Sept. 23rd beginning at 7AM.  The students will have a time of prayer and then we will serve them donuts and drinks on their way back to class.  If you would like to come and help we would love to have you.

Saturday October 17th we will be hosting a booth at the Harding Fest.  This will take place on the Cordova Elementary campus.  If you can come and help man the booth anytime that day, please contact Janet Smith at tuppergal1@aol.com or janetjonessmith@yahoo.com.

Sunday October 25th is Cherry Road Open House.  The admissions office buys all the refreshments and Parents’ Club is responsible for setting up the courtyard and serving refreshments that day.  We need helpers on Sat. Oct. 24th for a few hours to help set up and decorate the courtyard.  If you are able to volunteer any time that day, please contact Salam Assaf at salam.assaf@comcast.net.  The more helpers we have, the less time it takes to set up for this event.

As we begin a new year, Harding is focusing on Restoring the Roar.  You may have seen this phrase located out in the front of school.  Harding is trying to bring the family atmosphere back to the school.  Hopefully some of you were able to attend the 1st annual family fish fry.  This was an event to try and get all the Harding families together in one location.  Along with this theme, one of our officers came up with an idea that we think is GREAT!  Sometimes when we come to our child’s senior year, we look around the room and see parents that we have never seen before.  Our kids have been in school with their kids for years, but we never met the parents or even knew who they were.  We would like to help that not be an issue!  We would like to see each class get their parents together at least twice a year.  If you would like to help get this program going, please e-mail Keena Duncan at ulduncan@bellsouth.net.

As you can see, we are VERY busy.  One of our main goals this year is communication.  We have many parents that tell us each year that they pay their $25 and then never hear from us, so we are going to put out several e-mails a year letting you know what we are doing and ways you can help.  Many of you already indicated that you would like to hear more about serving on our board and we will be contacting you soon!  If you did not indicate this on your form, but are interested, just e-mail Karen Baskin at jk3b@juno.com,Terri Hambrick at tdhgrace@aol.com, or Laurie Betts at rlbetts@bellsouth.net.  We are always looking for more officers.

Again, we would like to thank you for joining Parents’ Club.  It takes so many people to help with all our events and we hope that you will have an opportunity to help with as many activities as you can.

Thank you,

Karen Baskin, Terri Hambrick, and Laurie Betts
