5/15. Fri.- We will wrap up this final chapter (31) over WWII with a test.
We will begin a two-day movie that depicts events surrounding the attempted assassination of Adolf Hitler; “Valkyrie.” Since the movie is PG-13, your student will bring home a permission form that notifies you and requires your signature. They will be handed out after the test on Fri., and are to be returned on Mon. In case your student forgets to bring it home, I will attach a copy to this page. moviepermissionslip.doc

4/6- Mon.- We will set the stage for WWI by considering the violent tensions throughout Euro. (especially in the Balkan States).
4/7- Tues.- We will watch a brief video over the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, and discuss how this was the shot that began a world-wide crisis.
4/8- Wed.- We will analyze how this was a mechanical war and redefined how wars would be fought. We will look further into the Western Front and acknowledge life in the trenches.
4/9- Thurs.- We will watch a video that illustrates the shocking Christmas in the Trenches when there was a brief truce, and enemies joined one another in a day of celebration.
4/13- Mon.- We will examine how the crisis evolved into Total War, and how eventually the U.S. was drawn into the conflict, and brought immediate relief to the Allied Morale.
4/14- Tues.- We will determine how the world found peace after this deadly war, and how they set goals to ensure future peace. Study Guides distributed for Ch. 27 Test.
4/15- Wed.- Review for Ch. 27 Test.
4/16- Thurs. Ch. 27 Test
4/17- Fri.- We will begin a movie known as, “All Quiet on the Western Front,” that was based on a novel set during WWI, and banned in Germany prior to WWII because of its negative image of war.
4/20- Mon.- Film continued.
4/21- Tues.- We will complete the film in the early part of the period, and proceed into our next lesson over life in Russia under Stalin and the evolution of Communist Soviet Union.
4/9- Thurs: We will begin a new unit and chapter that starts in Russia. We will explore the landscape and traits that define the massive country. Classwork: GR 14;1
4/13- Mon: We will continue our look into Russia, and complete our study by examining its economy. Classwork: GR 14;2. Study Guides for Ch. 14 test distributed.
4/14- Tues: Review for ch. 14 Test
4/15- Wed: Ch. 14 Test
4/16- Thurs: Video from the Travel Channel that explores Russian culture.
4/17- Fri: We will move past ch. 15 that deals with Russian history as that is something that we will explore more in detail in World History. We will pick up with ch. 16 with a look into Egypt. Classwork: GR 16;1
4/20- Mon.: We will explore Libya as well as the countries that make up the Maghreb. Homework: Read pp. 464-9 and complete GR 16;2. Study Guides distributed for Ch. 16 Test.
4/21- Tues.: Review for Ch. 16 Test
4/22- Wed.: Ch. 16 Test
4/23- Thurs.: Egypt video
4/24- Fri.: We will begin a look into Southwest Asia and start with Turkey. Classwork: Read pp. 477-480 and complete GR 17;1.
The ch. 13 test scheduled for this Fri. will be postponed until the following Tues.
We have been covering material from the French Revolution, and noting how the Enlightenment ideas shaped their republic. We have paid particular attention to how tumultuous the transition was for France.
Mon. 3/23- The students will review how the National Assembly was weakened by the public demand, and was overthrown by a new National Convention. The new order put into place a Directory and Two-House Legislature that would also fail. It was during this time that we witnessed the Regin of Terror in which paranoia became the driving force behind the execution of 40,000 people supposed of being counterrevolutionary.
Tues. 3/24- The students will begin a two-part study of Napoleon looking at his rise to absolute power as emperor of France. H/W- Read pp. 484-487. GR 19;5.
Wed. 3/25- The students will complete the study of Napoleon by looking at his decline as leader, and repeated exile from the country. Study guides will be distributed for the ch. 19 test.
Thurs. 3/26- Review for ch. 19 test.
Fri. 3/27- Ch. 19 Test
Mon. 3/23- The students will take a look back at the previous chapter that covered the Northern European countries (Scandinavia). We will watch a video in class over the country of Iceland.
Tues. 3/24- The students will begin the last chapter of this unit over Europe with a look into Eastern Europe. We will begin in the country of Poland. Read 365-369. GR 13;1.
Wed. 3/25- The students will learn about the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania). For classwork, the students will read 371-4, and complete the GR 13;2. Those that do not get finished with the work in class, will complete the assignment as homework.
Thurs. 3/26- The students will identify Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Read pp. 375-380. GR 13;3.
Fri. 3/27- The students will read pp. 381-5 and complete the GR 13;4 as classwork.
Mon. 3/30- We will examine Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, and the former Yugoslav republics.
Tues. 3/31- Students will be testing all day.
Wed. 4/1- We will explore the Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. Read pp. 386-9. GR 13-5. Study guides for the test will be distributed.
Thurs. 4/2- We will review for the ch. 13 test.
Fri. 4/3- Ch. 13 test.
Mon. 3/23- The students will begin a study of the Book of Esther. Notes.
Tues. 3/24- We will continue a look into the story of Esther, complete our notes for this section, and watch a short clip that illustrates the story.
Wed. 3/25- We will finish the Esther video, examine a document that summarizes the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. Before the students leave, they will receive a copy of the study guide for this section.
Thurs. 3/26- Review for Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther test.
Fri. 3/27- Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther test.
Mon. 3/30- Review of the previous test, and a look into the book of Job.
Tues. 3/31- Students will be taking tests all day.
Wed. 4/1- Students will begin a GLANCE into the book of Job.
