KICK OFF: I reminded students to pick up a summer reading packet and we voted on a name of the moth that invaded my room. Period 1 chose “1st Chair” and Period 2 chose “Manthony.” Students checked in their books then checked them out if they wanted to keep them to study for the exam. They will need to bring it and check it back in before their exam. Students sat in a circle and worked on their study packet while I handed out final grades which included exemptions. As predicated brains clicked off, but I reminded them that they were exempt from the exam not from the class or the study packet. We then said goodbye and gave hugs. I will really miss these classes. I have had many of them for 2 years and I know it is time for them to move on, but I have enjoyed them so much. They have really made my mornings.

Students used a form to conjugate verbs. This was practice for the exam. Students then worked on a study packet that is a chapter test from each of the chapters we studied this quarter that will be on the semester exam. I spent time reviewing different sections with students and helping individuals.

KICK OFF: Handed back quizzes over Finding the Subject and we went over it. I also handed back a quiz over Verbs and we went over that also. This is part of our review for the exam.
CLASS: Students then worked on worksheets over Subject and Verb and Past Tense Verbs. This is also review for the exams. I then gave the students a packet with and outline of everything we have learned over the semester and some chapter tests that we will be reviewing together in class over the next two days. Students can begin with that packet now. I suggested that they use a Scan.Read.Review technique to study. Scan the chapter in the book. Go back and read the textbook focusing on the examples. Then use the packet to review.

A student lent me the book Four Perfect Pebbles which I read over the weekend. It was a great book and I recommend it as a follow up book to The Diary of Anne Frank. I have included a synopsis below.
Marion Blumenthal Lazan’s unforgettable memoir recalls the devastating years that shaped her childhood.
Following Hitler’s rise to power, the Blumenthal family — father, mother, Marion, and her brother, Albert — were trapped in Nazi Germany. They managed eventually to get to Holland, but soon thereafter it was occupied by the Nazis. For the next six and a half years the Blumenthals were forced to live in refugee, transit, and prison camps that included Westerbork in Holland and the notorious Bergen-Belsen in Germany. Though they all survived the camps, Walter Blumenthal, the father, succumbed to typhus just after liberation.
It took three more years of struggle and waiting before Marion, Albert, and their mother at last obtained the necessary papers and boarded ship for the United States. Their story is one of horror and hardship, but it is also a story of courage, hope, and the will to survive.
